Introduction

Ochil Tower School is, as are all Camphill Communities, geared towards providing a therapeutic environment in all aspects of life, be it in the house or in the classroom or during outdoor activities.

The rhythmical aspects of the daily, weekly and yearly events, like the festivals, creates a framework and foundation for the work.

To find a balance between physical activity and concentration, active participation and listening, etc. are some of the challenges the curative educator meets in the work with the children and young people with additional support needs.

At certain periods of time a pupil might benefit from a more individualised approach, away from the class and group activities, to get the chance to work on and overcome difficulties connected with his or her specific disability.

Aims

Individual therapy sessions will usually take place once or twice a week, for a maximum of 45 minutes, and continue for one or two terms with a review by the end of each term or, if necessary, more frequently.

For these the pupil will be withdrawn for a period of time from the usual school activities. Under the guidance of the therapist the pupil will carry out specific therapeutic activities.

The aim with each session is to give the young person a space of his or her own, where the individual needs can come to full expression and be met with the particular insights the therapist can provide. The pace is directed by the young person's ability and rather than having the emphasis on learning, the aspect of healing and making whole, is in the foreground.
