What is an Eco-School?

The Eco-School's programme is an  international initiative designed to encourage whole-school action for the environment. It is a recognised award scheme that accredits schools who make a commitment to continuously improve their environmental performance. It is also a learning resource that raises awareness of environmental and sustainable development issues throughout activities being linked to curricular subjects and areas.

The aim of the Eco-School programme is to make environmental awareness and action an intrinsic part of the life and ethos of the school for both pupils and for staff and to engage the wider community.

There are nine topic areas which need to be addressed as an Eco-School. These include: Litter, Waste Minimisation, Energy, Water, Transport, Health and Well-being, School Grounds, Biodiversity and Sustaining Our World. Follow the various links on this website to see what is happening at Ochil Tower and if you want to know more, why not log on to the Eco-School website: www.ecoschoolsscotland.org
