In the spring of the year, the school invited Richard Armstrong, a
Countryside Ranger from Perth and Kinross Council to help us to study the
biodiversity of the school grounds. Richard introduced us to the 'mathematics'
of plant study and his initial visit has been followed up by 4 further visits
where the flora and fauna of a section of orchard and woodland have been
studied. One session has also involved pond-dipping in which we were able to
explore the multitude of life in one of the 3 ponds within the school
grounds.

Richard demonstrates how a 'quadrangle' works within a biodiversity study.

Pupils and co-workers of Class 9 gather around as Richard shows another of
his 'tricks!'

Bobby and Carolin are deep in study ... "can we identify that
plant...?"
